More Photos From Gulangyu

I love this picture of Maya on the ferry, perhaps a little unsure of where we are going, but looking so pretty with her flowers and flowered dress -- and then reflected in the mirrored seat.

These are views from the ferry, as we approached Gulangyu.





This jumble of statues is from the art school, looking forgotten on a balcony. . . .
My favorite part of the island was looking at the old crumbling mansions, still occupied but sadly decaying, their gardens overgrown with ivy. Picking out the elaborate detailing really showed the former glory of these old beauties.

The story about the mansions built back in the 20s is so interesting. Imagine what a different place China would be today if the Communists had not won.....
